The PPORA Level 1 Conditions Race for horses aged eight and over at Cothelstone on Saturday 15th March has attracted 19 entries. Races of this type are effectively Opens with a different penalty structure and – as a result – the field looks high quality, headed by Chris Barber’s 2023 Aintree Foxhunters hero Famous Clermont. Not having won this season, he escapes a penalty (as indeed do all the entrants) and looks the one to beat in his prep race for a repeat Aintree bid. Second top-rated is Acey Milan, now in the care of Harry Ryall, who has been running in Hunter Chases since just being touched off at Larkhill on his reappearance. Danielle Kenealy’s Punches Cross has won both his starts this season, while Sidi Ismael – professionally trained by David Pipe – dead-heated last time out, but both are stepping up in grade. Jason Maguire’s One For Rosie was classy last season but is running below his best this campaign, a comment which also applies to Emma Summersby’s Lakota Warrior. Raddon Top has been running well for Lara Pope this season but is another who looks to have plenty to find on form with Famous Clermont.
