Plenty of reasons to stage PPORA races in 2026/2027

With the deadline approaching for meetings to submit their race programmes for next season, we would like to remind all Fixture Secretaries of the benefits of hosting PPORA-supported races.

• The PPORA will give the fixture an additional £200 for each race staged. This sum can be used in a number of ways, for example to put towards the running costs of the meeting, or to provide hospitality for participants with runners at the fixture.

• Shires Equestrian are donating a rug to the winner of each PPORA-supported race in 2026/2027, as an additional memento to winning connections, alongside that presented by the fixture.

• The PPORA support for races is intended to complement the existing race sponsorship, and the PPORA do not take part in the winners presentation. All we ask is that we are added to the race title to indicate that the race has our support, for example, “The Walnut Hill PPORA Club Members Maiden Race”.

• While membership of the PPORA for the owner and rider is a condition of entry for any of our supported races, this typically has no impact on the number of entries or runners – PPORA-supported races are in line with the national average.

It's really easy to add a PPORA race to your card. Just choose the race for which you would like our support, go into your planner page, select the race and - in the 'Restrictions' tab, tick the PPORA box in the top left corner.

Jane Allfrey, Fixture Secretary at all four meetings at Chaddesley Corbett, which hosts eight PPORA races in total, explained why she is grateful for the PPORA contribution, saying:

“We’re always pleased to host their races because the PPORA does so much for point-to-pointing, not just for owners and riders but in its support of the grass roots of the sport – for example the free membership for first season riders.”

“The £200 per race they provide is most welcome and their funding has allowed us to increase prize money and improve the facilities, including the paddock and the horse walk.”

65 PPORA-supported races were scheduled in 2025/2026 – of which 58 took place – and we would ask as many fixtures as possible, who do not already stage one of our races, to consider holding one. There is no limit to the number of races to which we will award funding.
