Just one PPORA-supported contest takes place this weekend, a PPORA Conditions Race (Level 2) for Novice Riders, at Holnicote on Saturday 9th May. Nine have been entered and Teresa Clark’s Ninth Wave sets the standard, with the popular one-eyed 12-year-old having won 14 races between the flags. Emailandy, owned and trained by Paul Nicholls, is second best on ratings after his return to form when third in a Stafford Cross Open, while Rhiannon Lodge’s Galileo Silver runs best at this time of year, and also put some poor runs behind him when winning at Woodford. Josh Newman is bidding for a third consecutive trainers title, but his Getaway Drumlee disappointed last time after a Didmarton victory. Danielle Kenealy’s Joly Maker finished alone in his Members on his reappearance and the race won by Deborah Treneer’s Pirates’ Tale last weekend was also a Members. Wireless Operator, trained by Hannah Marshall, is generally consistent but hasn’t won since taking an eventful running of this contest two years ago, while Christine Gray’s Canastero is out of form and Darren McAlinden’s pointing debutant Castle Robin pulled up recently on his only run under rules since September 2024.
