Cynthia Higgon

pporacommittee

The PPORA would like to pay tribute to Cynthia Higgon on behalf of our Committee and Members. Cynthia very sadly passed away on Friday 11 October after a long battle with cancer.

To describe Cynthia Higgon as one of  Point to Pointings most dedicated stalwarts barely does justice to the contribution to the sport she made over the decades of her passionate involvement across a host of roles.

Universally respected for her achievements in the sport’s administration, both locally in Wales and nationally, she spent countless hours of her time and energies in support of the sport she held so close to her heart.

Renowned for her integrity, diplomacy, fairness and sheer determination at whatever level she was operating, she had that rare characteristic of being approachable by everybody, happy to offer guidance and advice whether at board level or in response to the queries of some inexperienced participants whilst she had her stewarding hat on.

One of the most welcoming people in the sport, her knowledge was encyclopaedic, her judgement spot on and her advice was always freely given. As an owner/rider representative on the PPORA’s Committee Cynthia was a huge contributor to the organisation’s work, her ability to cut to the chase and provide solutions to the trickiest of challenges, a hallmark of her style, and what a defender she was of the importance of preserving the amateur ethos of the sport whilst recognising the need to move with the ever increasing demands of the sport’s regulation.

For many of us she was the first port of call when a sounding board was needed, she was a brilliant listener, a consummate problem solver and a joy to converse with.  A person of immense kindness, her generosity in support of the annual awards lunch was yet another demonstration of her unwavering desire to see success within the sport recognised and celebrated.

She was a true legend of the sport.

Simon Claisse, former PPORA Chair.
