PPORA - Knightwick 09/11/2024

RACE PREVIEW by Jake Exelby

Myth Buster en route to victory at Kingston Blount (Neale Blackburn)

Ten horses have been entered for the PPORA Level 2 Conditions Race at Knightwick on Saturday 9th November, of whom six would be British pointing debutants, although five hold more than one entry this weekend.

Highest-rated of the newcomers is Paul Marvel, an interesting recruit for Hannah Roach from the Willie Mullins yard. Other ex-rules runners to note are Amron Sage, formerly trained by Nicky Henderson and now in the care of top trainer Alan Hill – he would be a first ride of the season for champion female jockey Izzie Hill – and Chilinlikeavillain, who was with Dan Skelton and is now owned and trained by Mickey Bowen, who shares the rules licence with father Peter. He will bid to give 17-year-old Harvey Barfoot-Saunt a debut success. Republican won under rules for Harry Derham, Champion Jockey James King is an interesting booking for dual Irish point winner Myleno, while the best form between the flags in this country last season was shown by Lily Bradstock’s Myth Buster and The Composeur, who won at Kingston Blount and Cocklebarrow respectively. The latter is now trained by Tommy Morgan, absent from racecards in recent years, but a shrewd keeper with a good strike rate.

The PPORA Level 3 Conditions Race at the same meeting has attracted eight entries although, again, five have other potential engagements and Lee Moulson’s Higham winner Silver Sheen, once rated as high as 130 under rules, and The Composeur are in both PPORA races. Highest-rated is Blagthebookies, now in the care of Neil Gittins, having won at Cothelstone for Chris Barber before finishing fourth in a Uttoxeter chase. Ballyadam Destiny ran well on his pointing debut, while Alan Hill’s Highland Glory sprung a surprise at Peper Harow. Best of those whose only target at the weekend is this race looks to be Imperial Sachin’s, now trained by Richard Lamb in Norfolk. While he hasn’t run for over 18 months, he was a dual chase winner at Uttoxeter.

Silver Sheen jumps into the lead at Higham (Neale Blackburn)
