Zac Baker

Today we’re talking to Zac Baker, an established amateur jockey who works full time for Nigel Twiston-Davies, with his biggest win on The New One in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las 🏆🏇 Brother to former professional flat jockey George Baker, racing is in his blood. Zac is driven & determined yet a relaxed rider who has a good judge of pace & can ride winners from the front or creep from behind! After the racing, you’ll find him in the bar having a laugh!

🏇 What’s your favourite aspect of pointing:

I love the fun side of things, a good days pointing is brilliant as you get a great atmosphere & the owners come back to the lorry afterwards & you all can enjoy it together. You don’t seem to get that under rules!

🏇 How did you get into pointing?

I got into pointing through my first job and through Martin & Sarah Bosley. Sarah bought a pointer (for £50!). She was a chestnut mare called Brave Boogie... by her sex & colour you can tell she was a bit of a handful!

🏇 How would you describe pointing to someone who hasn’t been?

Like David Maxwell said in his interview at Punchestown; “The most fun you can have with your clothes on!”

🏇 What is your career highlight?

Probably winning 3 Crudwell Cups on Green Winter; was 2nd at the 4th attempt which was frustrating!

🏇What’s your pointing career aim?

I don’t really have aims or goals just to keep kicking and ride as well as I can!

And get to 100 point winners 🤞🏻

🏇What’s your earliest pointing memory?

Going to Barbury point-to-point for a day out with Martin & Sarah Bosley. I must’ve only been 13/14. I think Dale Peters was there too (we were both there learning!) & I couldn’t believe how you had to mark the runners off in the card!

🏇 Whats one thing you’d change about pointing?

The only thing I’d change is a warm shower for after I’ve ridden!

🏇 Whats your favourite point-to-point & why?

I love Maisemore on a hot sunny day. Great viewing, it’s not too far to get anywhere on the course & it’s only 30 mins to get there from me!

Thanks so much Zac for catching up with us, we look forward to seeing you out pointing soon! 🏇
