This week we’re chatting to Alice Stevens! Alice is a point-to-point jockey and stable jockey for the extremely successful Station Yard Racing. Alice has an impressive 18% strike rate with 29 winners & rode The Bonny Boy to victory in the hotly contested Restricted Hunter Chase final at Stratford Hunter Chase evening earlier this year! If not in the winners enclosure, Alice can be found having a party in the car park!
🏇What is your favourite aspect of pointing?
I love pointing because of the people involved, the camaraderie between everyone.
🏇How did you get into pointing?
I got into pointing through pony racing. I had a useless pony that would always come last, but did look after me! I also had a very good pony who won every time we set off, but she got banned because she was nuts!
🏇How would you describe pointing to someone that hasn’t been before?
It’s fun, laid-back, easy to understand and anyone can go.
🏇What’s your pointing highlight?
Umberleigh a few years ago. We had a great party with Fran and the team in a quirky thatched cottage. Plus having winners helps!
🏇If you could change one thing in pointing, what would it be?
I would increase the threshold of winners a novice rider could have before they lose their allowance in Opens. I think that would help them gain support from more trainers & owners. Also, can we have changing rooms back?!
🏇What’s your pointing career aim?
To ride more winners. I’d also like to ride more young horses & a winner on a homebred. Obviously I would love to go to the big festivals with a ride too!
🏇What’s your earliest pointing memory?
Helping lead up My Way de Solzen at Garthorpe with Ella Mahon (now Pearce)…it was a great day as they won!
🏇Where’s your favourite point-to-point & why?
Horseheath as its a nice course to ride around with no surprises to catch horse or jockey out!
Alice is sponsored by Overbury Stud - check them out by clicking here 🐎
Great to catch up Alice and we look forward to seeing you pointing soon...not long to go now! #PPORA #GoPointing
