Rider Eligibility for Point to Points: changes for 2018 -2019
The PPA and BHA have announced a change to eligibility for an RQC – this change affects riders who have previously held a FULL Professional Licence
Previously
Regulation 53 allowed former Conditional or Apprentice Licence Holders who had not ridden more than 25 winners under the Rules of any Recognised Racing Authority to be issued an RQC allowing them to ride in Point to Points.
Former Full Professional Jockey Licence Holders were ineligible for an RQC – regardless of the number of winners ridden
For 2018 – 2019
Regulation 53 has been amended to also allow former Full Professional Jockey Licence Holders who have not ridden more than 25 winners under the Rules of any Recognised Racing Authority to be issued an RQC allowing them to ride in Point to Points
As any professional rider over the age of 26 is required to hold a Full Professional Licence this removes the age barrier that previously applied to former professionals wishing to ride in Point to Points
It is important to note that this change only applies to Point to Points. Riders who have held a Full Professional Licence will continue to be ineligible for a Category A or Category B Permit and will therefore NOT be eligible to compete in Hunter Chases or in other races open to amateurs Under Rules.
