Pre-Season news from the Welsh Border Area
Welsh Border Area News
There is a revolutionary change in the Welsh Border Area for the new season with the North Herefordshire Hunt fixture moving to November 24thon a new course. Rebranding the meeting as ‘Leominster Races’ (pronounced ‘Lemster’), the supporters have grafted to produce a flat, oval course alongside the River Lugg, close to the junction of the A49 and the A44. Eaton Hall, is home to the Price family, who are steeped in racing history through connection with the legendary Red Dove, and Eaton Hall was where the 1994 Champion Hurdle winner, Flakey Dove was produced and trained.
There are 7 races scheduled for the new fixture, with the first at 11.30 am. These include a Jockey Club maiden for Mares and Fillies, where the first 4 past the post accrue points for the Jockey Club Mares Maiden Series, worth £500 to the winner.
There will be an Open Day at Eaton Hall on Sunday, November 4th, 10.30 am- 2pm when all will be welcome to inspect the new course (HR6 0NA). Refreshments will be available.
With the Ross Harriers moving their meeting to Monmouth Showground in the adjacent Area, there will sadly be no fixtures at Garnons this season.
