NAF PPORA Mare of the Month & Mare of the Season Awards

New for 2017 – 2018, the  NAF PPORA Mares Awards Series was launched to shine the spotlight on the achievements of mares and fillies racing between the flags. These awards are designed to celebrate achievement in the widest sense and are about eye-catching performances and noteworthy achievements – which may be one off or cumulative – it’s not just about winners on the board in any given month

Throughout the Season we made six monthly awards to mares who had caught our eye, and it was from amongst these that we chose   our Mare of the Season Award Winner  Teeton Power, owned and bred by Mrs Joan Tice and trained by Liz Harris.

A dual winner this season, Teeton Power first attracted our attention when landing her Intermediate in fine style at the first time of asking at the Midlands Area Club Meeting at Thorpe Lodge.  She subsequently followed up in her Members at Guilsborough before heading to the Cheltenham Hunter Chase Evening. There she was unfazed by the event,  or by the upgrade to regulation fences, and jumped exuberantly in a bold attempt to win the Mares’ Hunter Chase from the front – ultimately finishing second to the talented Popaway.  It was a noteworthy first run over regulation fences, she is ultra-game, an exuberant jumper and very competitive – as her flat back ears once Popaway came level at Cheltenham showed!   She looks very progressive and is an exciting proposition for next season.
