Frequently Asked Questions About PPORA Race Eligibility

Am I eligible to enter my horse in a PPORA Race during the 2017 – 2018 Season?

To be eligible to enter and run your horse in a PPORA Race during the 2017 – 2018 Season you must hold one of the following memberships by 1pm on the Wednesday following close of entries for the race (unless explicitly stated otherwise in the race conditions):

  • Owner 2017 – 2018
  • Owner 2017 – 2020
  • Rider  2017 – 2018 (including riders with free first season membership)
  • Life Member
  • Honorary Member

As an owner it it is your responsibility to ensure that this condition is satisfied.

Please note that no refunds of race entry fees will be given for ineligible horses entered in PPORA races.

I am a keeper entering a horse on behalf of an owner what should I do?

It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that membership conditions are satisfied, however, if you plan to enter a horse on behalf of an owner in a PPORA race then please ensure that the owner is aware of the eligibility requirement.

What do syndicates need to do to satisfy PPORA race eligibility requirements?

If your horse’s Hunter Certificate has been registered in the name of a syndicate e.g. “The Winning Post Partnership (Andrew Smith)”  then it is the named “lead” member recorded on the Hunter Certificate who must satisfy the PPORA race eligibility requirements.

In the above example provided that Andrew Smith is a current member of the PPORA then the PPORA race eligibility requirements are satisfied.

Our horse has been registered in joint names, but not as a syndicate, how can we satisfy PPORA race eligibility requirements?

If your horse’s Hunter Certificate has been registered in joint names e.g. Mrs P Evans, Mr J James and Mr  R Wright then only one of the named individuals is required to be a current member of the PPORA in order to satisfy PPORA race eligibility requirements.

In the above example provided that either Mrs P Evans or  Mr J James or Mr  R Wright is a  current member of the PPORA then the PPORA race eligibility requirements are met.

I am a rider, what do I need to do to be eligible to ride on a PPORA Race?

To ride in a PPORA race you must hold current PPORA membership at the time the horse is declared.  All of the following membership categories entitle you to ride in a PPORA race

  • Owner 2017 – 2018
  • Owner 2017 – 2020
  • Rider  – 2017 – 2018 (including riders with free first season membership – see below)
  • Life Member
  • Honorary Member

I am a first season rider what do I need to do to be eligible to ride in PPORA races?

Nothing!  As a first season rider we automatically give you free rider membership when you register your RQC and you are eligible to ride in all our PPORA races.

What is “current” membership?

If you are an Honorary or Life Member you membership remains current across all Membership Years

If you are an annual (or 3 year member) then you are a current member provided you have paid for 2017 – 2018 (or 2017 – 2020) membership by the deadlines indicated above

I purchased a membership  less than 12months ago, midway through the 2016 – 2017 Membership Season doesn’t that mean I am still eligible to enter / ride?

Unfortunately not, the PPORA Membership Year runs from October 1st to September 30th of the following year.  All 2016 – 2017 memberships expire on September 30th 2016

Please note:

Responsibility for ensuring the eligibility at declaration of a horse and its rider lies with the owner, or their authorised representative. In the event of an ineligible horse and/or rider participating in a PPORA race the horse will be subsequently disqualified and no refund of race entry fees / declaration fee will be made.
