The Dodson & Horrell PPORA Club Members Novice Riders Series  2017 – 2018

Last season’s Dodson & Horrell PPORA Club Members Novice Riders Series proved as popular as ever with competitive fields and  runners averaging 9 per race.  Two of the season’s leading Novice Riders –  leading novice points scorer Lorcan Williams and his closest rival Henry Crow  – both  featured on the winners’ list, but it was rider-trainer Amy Cox and Beggar’s Velvet who triumphed in the Final at Garthorpe – giving Amy the second win of her novice rider career.

“My first winner took a while coming, but this was the first season I had a really competitive horse,” explained Amy whose first ride was in 2011, and first winner came in the Ladies’ Open at Mollington  April 2017.   “After qualifying (at the Belvoir at Garthorpe) the Dodson & Horrell Final was the plan.  Then we had a really bad  race at Cheltenham a couple of weeks before the Final,” she continues admitting it had given her confidence a knock, “but back at Garthorpe he jumped really well and gave me a great ride,  I was so pleased for my father, Bay Harper (the owner of Beggar’s Velvet), who’s supported me so much.   The Novice Riders Series is a great opportunity for novice  riders, it creates opportunities for novice riders with horses that would otherwise be in highly competitive Open Races,  and the final is something to aim at.   I am really appreciative of Dodson & Horrell’s sponsorship of it.”

The 2017 – 2018 Series got underway at the PPORC Fixture with Connor Brace and William Money the first to qualify for this season’s £1000 Final at Garthorpe on April 29th
