2018 – 2019 Young Horse Awards
A prestigious showcase for the wealth of young equine talent that consistently emerges from British Point to Pointing. The PPORA Young Horse Awards and are a points based championship for 4, 5 6 and 7 year old horses competing in British Point to Points.
In a change to previous years this season we’ll be making 5 Regional Awards:
Midlands (Midlands, South Midlands and West Midlands Areas)
North (Northern, Yorkshire and North Western Areas)
South & East (Sandhurst, South East and East Anglia Areas)
Wales & Borders (West Wales, South Wales, Monmouthshire and Welsh Border Areas)
West (Devon & Cornwall and Wessex Areas)
Over the years the PPORA Young Horse Awards have pinpointed many “horses to follow” both Between the Flags and under Rules – we’ve been tracking the progress of the leading performers from last season’s winning cohort and will bring you news of these over coming months.

The highest point scorer will be named National Young Horse Champion, and the winning owner will receive a cheque for £1000 thanks to the generosity of our sponsor The Point-To-Point Point Racing Company
Our 2017 – 2018 National Young Horse Champion was Pink Eyed Pedro (GB).
Bred, owned and trained in South Wales by David Brace, Pink Eyed Pedro was ridden to victory on 5 occasions by the Season’s leading novice rider Connor Brace.
This is a contest that regularly produces “horses for the notebook” and we’re eagerly looking forward to watching this season’s leading contenders emerge – and of course following the fortunes of last season’s winners
Eligibility & Scoring 2018 -2019 PPORA Young Horse Awards
All 4, 5,6 and & year old horses will be automatically included in this contest. Horses are allocated to regions based on the hunt nominated on their Hunter Certificate.
Points can be won in all grades of race up to and including Sunday May 19th 2019:
Open Races All Other Point to Point Races
1st – 10 points 1st – 8 points
2nd – 6 points 2nd – 4 points
3rd – 3 points 3rd – 2 points
In the event of a tie, at either Area or National level, the winner is determined by the number of overall wins, and where this still results in a tie the number of wins in Open Races will be the deciding factor
