2019 – 2020 Mare of the Month and Season Awards
Mare of The Season 2018 – 2019: Dabinett Moon
Remarkably game and consistent Dabinett Moon is bred, owned and trained by Fran and Christopher Marriott and was ridden by Claire Hardwick in all but 2 of her 38 races. As owner-trainer-breeders Fran and Christoper are archetypal grassroots Point to Point people with a total passion for the sport – and as Claire explained “never afraid to take the competition on”. Dabinett Moon’s consistency and achievements make her a fantastic flag bearer for mares racing between the flags – and in the year she retired to the paddocks a very worthy winner of the PPORA’s Mare of the Season Award.
About these awards
When we launched the The PPORA Mares Awards in 2017 – 2018 we wanted to shine a light on the achievements of mares and fillies racing between the flags.
Over the past couple of seasons we have been spoilt for choice and in choosing our winners we go beyond just counting winners on the board in the given month and taking account of eye-catching performances and noteworthy achievements – which may be one off or cumulative.
Over the past two seasons our winners have included mares and fillies at a variety of stages in their racing career from maidens to seasoned campaigners. Our overall winner in 2018 – 2019 was the remarkable Dabinett Moon who has given tremendous enjoyment to here owner-breeder-trainers Fran and Christopher Marriott over many years.
We’re looking forward to choosing this seasons winners, you can see who they are and find out more about them and why they were chosen as an award winner by clicking the links in the list below.
